PRE-WAR APARTMENTS

This project involved the restoration of a 3 bedroom ground floor maisonette apartment. The first objective was to open up the rear/courtyard facing rooms which were drab and dark, and to somehow connect these spaces to the Riverside Drive park facing rooms. The second objective for the client was to restore much of the period style detail which had been removed over the years. Lastly, many building utility and service lines had been run through the apartment from the street and into the main building. Our job was to hide and incorporate these details into the restoration.

The biggest change was to remove the wall separating the rear dining room and the living room, which faced Riverside Park. The result, was a new 35 foot long ?great room? bringing light and color to a grand new space. Two architectural columns are the final delineation along with the addition of picture and frame molding and decorative dining room paneled walls. The remainder of the apartment was washed with vibrant colors and decorated in a myriad of styles: Victorian/turn of the century; art deco and mid century.
